Buckner has successfully been in business since
1947. The company was started by Clyde Preston Buckner
after his discharge from the US Army Engineering
Corp., WWII.
We are consistently ranked by Engineering News-Record
as one of the top twenty-five Steel Erectors in
the USA and as one of the To 600 Specialty Contractors.
"International Cranes" has ranked us
(by tonnage) as one of the Top Crane Companies
in the World. Buckner Steel is one of only approximately
twenty American Institute of Steel Construction
"Advanced Category" Certified Steel
Erectors. Buckner is also a certified precast
concrete erector by the Precast Concrete Institute.
Our safety performance earns us recognition and
projects on a regular basis.
Our crane operators are CCO certified.
Buckner performed erection, rigging and crane
rental over much of the Eastern USA with certain
projects taking us to places such as Saudi Arabia
and Puerto Rico.
Buckner Steel is presently owned by Carol Williams,
Secretary/Treasurer (daughter of Preston Buckner),
Eddie Williams, CEO and
Doug Williams, President
(son of Carol and Eddie). Buckner's management
team has over 500 years total construction experience
and our office staff, field superintendents and
craft workers are extremely knowledgeable and
committed.
Buckner Steel is very active in trade organizations,
such as: Specialized Carriers and Rigging Association
(SC&RA), Steel Erectors Association of Amercia
(SEAA), Precast Concrete Institute, American Welding
Society, National Safety Council, American Subcontractors
of America, Associated General Subcontractors,
etc. Doug Williams is past Chairman of the SC&RA
Crane and Rigging Group and current Chariman of
the SEAA Crane and Rigging Committee and is currently
on the OSHA Subpart "n" Committee, which
is rewriting the OSHA Crane Standards. Eddie Williams'
list of industry involvement is too long to list,
but his most recent involvement was a participant
with the OSHA SENRAC rewrite of the Steel Erection
Standards, Subpart "R".
Buckner has a full time Safety Director who not
only monitors our safety program, but also conducts
regular safety and craft training sessions. Buckner
has produced several orientation and training
videos in English and Spanish for "in house"
training.
Buckner has a full time American Welding Society
Welding Inspector on staff.
Doug Williams was instrumental in development
of Compu-Crane "Crane Selection and Lift
Planning" software which is used internationally
and has been the sole provider for several years
to both Manitowoc and Grove Cranes. (This software
is packaged with new cranes.) In 2000 Compu-Crane
was sold to P.A.T. America. (the leading LMI Manufacturer).
Buckner uses this program in critical lift planning.
Doug frequently speaks to industry groups on "lift
planning" and "crane selection".
Buckner has a reputation for successfully performing
the unusual, complex, "impossible" projects.
When major lifts are required our phone rings.
